Hace un poco mas de año y nuevo tuve la oportunidad de asistir a un seminario en Colonia, Alemania sobre Derechos Humanos y Liberalismo. Lo que me queda mayormente guardado son las amistades que generé con jóvenes de mi misma edad, y que, a pesar de las largas distancias y culturas que nos separan, pudimos intra-conectarnos porque nos identifica un mismo lazo de humanismo. Qué rica sensación poder conocer de primera mano el mapa de culturas lejanas a la nuestra y saber que la globalización achica el territorio cada día más.
Tuve la gran oportunidad de conocer una joven--Sabine--de decedencia alemana que tiene mucho tiempo de trabajar en Korea del Norte y tiene bastante experiencia de primera mano de lo que ocurre en esta isla de autoritarismo. Le tuve que preguntar cómo interpretaba el nuevo acuerdo entre Korea del Norte y Sur y para curiosamente coincide con mi entrada anterior del blog en que el acuerdo--y no reconciliación--es tenue y hay que analizarlo con lupa. Cito textualmente lo que me escribió:
With regard to the second inter-Korean summit, I think that we could call it a modest success. When the summit was announced, many said it would be mainly used by the government and President Roh to increase their popularity shortly before the presidential elections on 19 december (though I am almost sure that this would help not much).

Many people, including myself, expected enthusiasm or a breakthrough reminding us of the first summit in 2000. It was a little bit naive to think so because at this stage we could not expect any dramatic breakthrough towards denuclearization or unification. However, I was a little bit disappointed that the issue of denuclearization and human rights was only mentioned in last place or even not at all. The joint statement has politically not much substance but is very pragmatic (it includes detailed economic projects, infrastructure etc.) and shows the increasing routinized and professionalized relationsship between both Koreas.
