Paper or Plastic?

Aunque cuestiono el modus operandi de muchos ambientalistas que buscan obligar a terceros a vivir bajo sus estándares de decencia, si considero importante el esfuerzo voluntario que cada individuo (y en su conjunto) puede realizar para darle un respiro al medio ambiente.

Una iniciativa que encuentro viable en esta ruta es la que recientemente recibí en un correo electrónico preguntando:

Paper or plastic? How about, "No thanks!"

If every American consumer brought their own reusable bags when shopping, we'll cut more than a billion pounds of CO2 this month - that's the equivalent of taking 1.3 million cars off the road!

When you bring your own reusable bag to the store, you:

• Save wildlife: Hundreds of thousands of sea turtles, birds, whales, and other marine mammals die every year from eating plastic bags mistaken for food.
• Save trees: It takes 14 million trees to make all of the paper bags the U.S. uses in one year.
• Reduce waste: An estimated 4 billion plastic bags end up as litter each year globally - enough to circle the earth 63 times tied end to end!
• Reduce our dependence on oil: About 12 million barrels of oil are required to make the 100 billion plastic shopping bags used in the U.S. each year.

Tips on taking this pledge: Make it a habit to bring a few reusable bags wherever you go. Stash a couple in the car and write a reminder at the top of your grocery list.

• Es una iniciativa voluntaria que incentiva el uso racional de materiales que dañan nuestro planeta otorgando beneficios. Busca fomentar el interés personal y tener consciencia ambiental, además de un sentimiento de pertenencia a una "buena causa" que los humanos ansiamos.
  
• No me considero un fiel practicante de esta recomendación, pero últimamente re-uso las mismas bolsas de papel para ir al supermercado. Lo he encontrado práctico porque así no tengo que guardar muchas bolsas innecesarias en mi apartamento. Ahora no solo guardo espacio en el apartamento, sino que además ayudo a conservar árboles.
  

Ahora el problema es que hacer al respecto cuando tengo que votar la basura...
